MONUMENTS
FONDI
· The Baronial Castle, considered one of the most important ancient built of the Latium. It was built at the first years of the fourth century, nowadays its rooms are the point of meeting of many cultural and political activities of the town.
· The War Memorial is a mosaic of the 1970 made by Domenico Purificato, a Fondi citizen, and situated near “de Gasperi” square.
· The Prince Palace is built according the Renaissance style of the XIII-XIV cent. with elegant mullioned windows.
TERRACINA
- The “Giove Anxur” temple is just on the top of the S. Angelo mount from where it observes the city. It was built during the Roman age. At its left side there is (there was!!) the residence of the priests of the temple.
- The “Foro Emiliano” represents the centre of the old city, now it’s the square of the Municipal, on its floor it’s possible to see the name of the sponsor of the work, Aulo Emilio.
- The “Braschi” Palace (XVIII cent.) is a simple but elegant built that nowadays it’s the place of cultural event of city.
- The “Frangipane” Castle (XII) was built by Pope Eugene III, and since 1143 it was lived by Frangipane family, that for the whole XII century reined there.
- The “Frumentaria” tower is situated in the Municipal square. It’s a stone built of the third century and it’s high 35 metres. At its first floor there is the Archaeological Museum.
S. FELICE
- The Circe’s temple is on the high part of the mount, probably it was an open enclosure in which many followers met themselves, because it’s the unique in the Plain.
- The Abysses Christ is a bronze statue of God, sank in the 1992 at 18 meters depth far from the port less than a mile.
- The Baronial Palace (XVI cent.) is the Municipal Palace and it is in the old centre of the city.
- The “Templari” tower (XIII cent.) is in the centre of the modern city. Its old clock has only six numbers.
- The Paola tower is in the western side of the mount, it was built in the 1562 by Pio IV to control the coast towards Anzio.
- The Vittoria tower (XVI cent.) is on the shore. It’s possible to see, on its walls, the marks of a battle.
- The Cyclopean walls (VI cent) are in the eastern side of the mount, they were built according a polygonal architecture.
SPERLONGA
- Villa and Tiberius’s Cave, at the feet of Ciannito mount, along the S.S.Flacca road, it’s composed by a cave, a garden, a fish pond and the ruins of a big imperial villa.
- The “Truglia” tower (XVI cent) has a square base, it is on the rock near the port where during the summertime there are many picture exhibitions.
GAETA
- The Castle (VIII cent) was destroyed many times during its life and always it was built bigger than before, in special way by Normans, Aragonesis, Angioini.
- The Cathedral (X-XI cent.) is considered an important appointment for its many inner picture exhibitions. It is also the place in which is possible to buy the indulgences during the jubilee. The bell tower is in Norman style.
The Orlando mount is a little hill. On its top there are the Roman mausoleum of Lucio Munazio Planco, the walls of Charles V and some builds of Bourbons. It’s possible to visit the Split Mountain and the Turkey’s Cave going down a wonderful stairway which arrives at same level of the sea.
